Returning to work doesn’t mean your breastfeeding journey has to stop. A little planning can help you safely store expressed breast milk for your baby. •⁠ ⁠Wash your hands and use sterile bottles or storage bags before expressing. •⁠ ⁠Store breast milk safely: Room temperature: Up to 4 hours Refrigerator: Up to 4 days Freezer: Up to 6 months (best quality) •⁠ ⁠Label every container with the date (and time, if needed). •⁠ ⁠Warm milk in a bowl of warm water - never microwave. Swirl gently before feeding. Use warmed milk within 2 hours and never refreeze thawed milk. Safe storage means your baby continues to receive the benefits of breast milk - even when you’re back at work. Feeding a newborn is a full-body experience, and engorgement can make those early days feel exhausting. ​When her body feels painfully firm, the goal isn’t to completely empty the breast. The goal is just to ease the pressure so her supply can regulate naturally over 24 to 48 hours. ​If she is struggling, a few small acts of care go a long way. ​Bring a warm compress for two minutes before the baby latches to help the milk drop down easily.
